Toubkal summit climb : 2days / 1 night
Day 1 : imlil -sidi chamharouch – toubkal refuge :
Departure of the hike from little berber touwn, known as Morocco’s litte chamonix set in the upper levelfoothills of the western high atlas mountains, a main trailhead with mule paths branching out in all directions. Towards the south up the berber villges of around, taourirt, achaynup and down the stark slopes, the magnifificent western high atlas peaks of the toubkal massif immediately before us. We shall stop at around to visit this rather singular village in the imlil valley, built seemingly house upon house on large moraine spur, overlooking ancient irrigated terraced fields of fruit trees and vegetables. We thence carry on for a further 8 km. To the equally-quaint village (shrine) of sidi chamharouch, a berber village set beside a waterfall and small stream, again with the its pisé homes seemingly built somewhat chaotically one into another. This village is a place of pilgrimage for the devout Moslems and it is where there is a arabout shrine-forbidden to non moslems and said to be a relic of pre-islamic religious cult. We take a break for a picnic, within full view of jbel toubkal , at 4165m the highest peakin north africa , prior to setting off up to the toubkal refuge for our dinner, bivouac or overnight accommodation in the refuge(3207m). (5 hours).
Day 2 : toubkal refuge- summit – all way back to imlil:
Out at around 5/6 in the morning to attain, after 3 hour steep climb, the highest peak in the maghreb.the panorama from the summit is simply stunning. This remarkable climb and view is really worth the effort . whenever you are ready, we shall descent via the ihibi sud – or south circuit – for a straightforward 2to 3 hours descent back to the refuge and our picnic. This afternoon we shall take the way down hill back to imlil ( allow 3 and half hours ) 8 hours in total.
Village of Imlil : 2days / night :
day 1 : imlil – tizi n’tamaterte – wanskra:
After breakfast we set out today towards the east ; up winding mule tracks to the tizi n’ tamaterte (2279m) to enjoy the amazing panorama of the surrounding atlas mountain range peaks and valleys on our way to our picnic spot on the tizi n’tamaterte, overlooking jbel oukaimeden and the beautiful encircled plateau. After lunch set of following the path down to imnane valley intill our gite d’etape in wanskra village. 5 to 6 hours walking.
day 2 : wanskra – ikkis – tizi n’aguersiwal – aguersiwal – imlil:
After breakfast, we set off down the assif imnane valley, passing throught several berber hamlets and thence up to the tizi n’ageursiwal (2000m). Once through the col we shall now go down more winding mule tracks leading to the village of aguersiwal (lunch spot ) set off in river bed of imlil , allow another hour to get up the valley to imlil. 6 hours walking.
Imlil – Setti fadma 3 days / 2 nights
day 1 : imlil – tizi ntamatere (2279m) – wanskra – tachdirth :
From imlil, we set out along a piste for a 1 hour and 45 minuteshike towards the east up to the tizi n’tamaterte (2279m)on through fields of barley and orchards of walnuts, appel and cherry treees untill we reach the village of tamaterte. Once through the village we shall take a path wich leads us up though pine and juniper woods we stop at the tizi to admire the imlil and imnane valleys, this latter with its many berber villages tucked precariously onto the slopes stretching around us. We carry on along the upper valley slopes for another hour or so to the villages of first wanskra and then amagdoul sset amidst terraced plots of land carved from the hard slopes where we shall stop for our field picnic on the plateau used, in summer, as a favoured bivouac site. Our afternoon will be spent hiking for some 2 hours up through the valley along the mule trails untill we reach the pretty- and the oldest-berber in the toubkal massif ( tachdirth 2291m), set amongst terraced plots clawed from the surrounding craggy slopes, where we will overnight ingite d’etape.
day 2 : Tachdirth –iaabbassen – timichi :
After an early breakfast we satart our 6 hours hike south-eastwards to the terraced village of timichi (1850m), at the western offshoot head of ourika valley. For 2and half hours we hike slowly up to the tizi n’tachdirth (3200m), which affords us a stunning panoramic view of jbel aksoual (3842m) and bouignouane (3882m) on one side and angour on the other, with the beginning of the luscious nature of beautiful, verdant valley streching out way below us. We shall traverse the pass and continue on down through the rocks north-eastwards for further 2 hours untill we reach the berber village of iaabbassen (2030m), where we will stop for our welcome field picnic next to spring just outside of the village. The afternoon’s 2 hours hike us up futher to the northeast down the valley to the old village of timichi, a charming terraced pisé conglomeration of homes set amongst ancient nut trees, where we will have our dinner and overnight in a berber family’s home.
DAY 3 : timichi –tiwerdiwe – tadrarte – agadir n’ait boulmane – setti fadma :
After breakfast we set out for a 4 to 5 hours hike eastwards down along the valley full of cornfields and walnuts grovs, with many streams flowing down from the upper slopes, passing through the villages of anfli and tadrart to arrive at the end of beautiful ourika valley proper and the renowned berber village of setti fadma ,with its ancient nut trees and waterfalls. We shall stop for our picnic just outside of the village, before hiking for another half hour to get to the vechicle.
Berber Villages 4 days trek /3nights
DAY 1 : Marrakech –imi oughlad –tizi n’tachte –tiziane :
Early morning departure from marrakech for a pleasante drive south winding our way up through the moulay brahim gorge and upper valleys to arrive at the higher foothills of the western high atlas mountains and our trailhead of imi oughlad (1450m) with the jbel toubkal, at 4167m the highest peak in north africa, aglzim 3650m and aksoual 38847m, looming before us. Here we alight from our vehicle and meet up with berber muleteer crew, always a fun part of our treks. We set off up in north-westerly direction for a 2hour acclimatisation hike up switchback mule tracks, passing by cornfields woods pine and juniper to the tiz n’tachete (2000m),where we shallstop to look back down on the imlikl and ait oussaden valleys before carrying on for another half hour to imi n’ifri and our field picnic. Thence a slow hike for about 2 and half hours south-west down along a dirt track to assif n’ait oussaden and the red clay
terraced village of tiziane (1750 m) for our accommodation in gite d’etape our bivouac.
DAY 2 : tizziane – tizi n’taghrhourte – D’knt:
After breakfast we now set off on our hike up along the assif n’ait oussaden valley, passing through the wallnuts groves, up to tizi n’taghrhourte (1995m) and through to a rare almost flat strecth to arrive at assaka spring, where we will stop for our field picnic amidst and awesome silence after some 2 and half hours relatively easy walking. Our afternoon’s hike takes us down along the edges of the forest untill we reach the berber village of D’knt (1870m) where we will have our dinner and spent the night in family‘s home our in bivouac.
DAY 3 : D’knt – tizi n’tagdalte – tizi oussem :
We set off for our morning’s 3 hours hike up through groves of walnut trees, fields of corn and barley to greet the many sheep and goatherders – and women and children bent over with 20kg loads of faggots and dried herbs. We traverse the tizi n’tagdalte to the descent amongst the juniper trees till we come to a small spring set amongst the trees , where we will stop for our picnic .once refreshed, we are off down winding tracks of upper slopes for some 3hours to come to a small river at the beginning of the valley of assif n’ait oussaden. From here we enter the village of tizi oussem (1850m) for our dinner and accommodation in a mountain gite d’etape.
DAY 4 : tizi oussem – tizi m’zzik – imlil – back to marrakech :
After breakfast we strike out up through pine and juniper trees to travere the tizi M’zzik 2450m and descent slowly to the foot of the col just before the hamlet of m’zzik where we stop for our field picnic amidst orchards of cherry, apple and nut trees and the surrounding peaks. This afternoon, we set off down to the berber trailhead village of imlil ; the end of your trek.
Toubkal summit 7 days trek via ifni
DAY 1 : imlil – tizi ntamatere (2279m) – wanskra – tachdirth :

DAY 2 : wanskra – tizi n’likemet – aazib n’likemt :
After an early breakfast, we set out for 7 hours hike, 4 hours upper foothills of tizi Likemet (3550m) where we will have to stop and enjoy the view, again giving us some awesome views of the jagged peaks and verdant valleys. From here we set off down for 1 hour then stop for our picnic. After lunch another hour to get to the cam wich set off just beside the aouri viver, night in tents in azib n’likemet.
DAY 3 : aazib n’likemet – tizi n’aouri – amsouzarte:
From the azib we start our 7 hours hike by walking up the aouri river and directlyon to the tizi n’ aouri (3109m) wher we will stop for our picnic surrounded by peaks and valleys.This afternoon we slowly descend along the zigzaging paths into the ighir n’tagnite untill we arrive at the berber village of tagnite in tifnoute valley. A brief stop before hiking down further untill we reach the village of amsouzarte (1740m) where we will have dinner in a berber family’s home.
DAY 4 : amsouzarte – imhilne – lake ifni :
After breakfast, today’s hike is shoter than the previous day’s, for tomorrow and the day after are reasonably tough going. We strike out south up the valley of assif n’izli, through the village of abtraoui, takaterte and imhilne untill we arrive at the lake ifni, (2295m) after some 4 hours where we will stop for our picnic in the midst of quiet waters and steep slopes of the looming mountains. Here we set up camp whilst our evening’s meal is being prepared.
DAY 5 : lake ifni- tizi n’ounoums- toubkal refuge:
Brekfasteds and refreshed, we set out on 6 hours hike towards the north-west up to the col of tizi ounnoums (3600m). Once through the pass we stop for our picnic amongst awessome surrounding of the toubkal massif. From here we will continue directly to the toubkal refuge (3207m) where we can either bivouac on the surrounding slopes or overnight in the refuge. Whilst tonight’s dinner is being prepared, there will be ample opportunity to stroll around the area and look at tomorrow’s challenge-the summit of the highest jbel in the maghreb.
DAY 6 : toubkal refuge – toubkal summit 4167m – toubkal refuge:
A very early breakfast to set out at around 5 in the morning to obtain after 3 hour steep climb, the highest peak in the maghreb. The panorama from the summit is simply stunning. This remarkable climb and view is really worth the effort. Whenever you are ready , we shall descent via the ihibi sud – or south circuit – for a straightforward 2 to 3 hours descent back to the refuge and our picnic and stroll around the surrounding slopes untill dinner is ready.
DAY 7 : toubkal refuge – sidi chamharouch – aroumd – imlil:
Breakfast and ready we shall now set off towards the north along steeply descending, zigzagging trails of the higher slopes of the valley of assif n’issganne towards the berber village of sidi chamharouch. Set beside a waterfall, with its homes surpringly built one into the other, it is yet another sight to be enjoyed. There is a pilgrimage marabout shrine near, probably the remnant of pre-islamic culture, But forbidden to non muslims and, on leaving the village, we shall notice a tree, savred to the local berbers, where they hang strips of coloured cloth and pile up stones as we descend for some 8 kms. high above the valley of assif n’ait misane down zigzagging trails around granite and basalt grey rocks to the remarkable village of aroumd 1880m, built on a spur of moraine rock commanding one of the more fertile valleys of the high atlas mountains with terrced, irrigated plots and fields of
maize, onions and fruit trees on all sides. Here we shall stop for our picnic prior to contnuing on for about 3 kms along mule track zigzagging above the river to arrive finally, at the berber village of imlil, end of the trek.
Atlantic coast 8 days
This camel trek of 5 to 6 hours walking offers you the opportunity to discover the wide-open spaces of the Atlantic coast at the rhythm of the sun, wind and dromedary. This is a beautiful region renowned for its high cliffs, fishermen’s huts, long beaches, beautiful dunes and, above all, for its Argan trees – a unique species which grows nowhere else in the world. The trek ends with a visit to Essawira (Mogador), a town brimming with history, art and charm.
DETAILS AND ITINERARY
Day 1 :
Arrival at Marrakech airport where we will meet you and take you to your hotel.
Day 2 :
Transfer to Tafdna beach, an old Portuguese anchorage. Camp.
Day 3 :
Having loaded our dromedaries we shall climb a small hill in order to enjoy a splendid view over the sea and Tafdna village. Then we shall set off across an Argan tree forest where it is not uncommon to find goats perched in the bushes. We shall take our midday break on a beach. In the afternoon we shall visit the Marabout of Sidi Ahmed Essayeh. Camp at Iftane beach. 6h walking.
Day 4 :
A steep path allows us to leave the coast and move inland. At Sidi Mbarek we shall camp between the sea, dunes, waterfalls, marabout and palm trees. Camp. 5h walking.
Day 5 :
Walking along beautiful beaches we shall head for Cape Sim, breaking at midday at Sidi Kawki. In the afternoon we shall cross a mimosa forest and camp in the middle of the forest, close to the beach.
Day 6 :
A short walk to Essaouira where we shall visit the town, followed by lunch by the beach. You shall then be taken to the hotel and have the afternoon free to explore. The group is invited to make its own arrangements for dinner.
Day 7 :
Transfer to Marrakech. Overnight at hotel. Group meal at a restaurant in town.
Day 8 :
Transfer to the airport.
Camel Trek in Morocco Desert 3 days / 2 nights.
Depart Marrakech and transport over the High Atlas mountains Tizi nTichka pass to World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou (used as a backdrop for more than 20 films), then visit Ouarzazate and the large Kasbah Taourirt. You will pass through many Berber villages, and once in the desert, see riverside oasis and barren hillsides clustered with Kasbahs (fortified dwellings that house many families and their livestock) and Valley of the Roses. Stay in Dades valley of a thousand Kasbahs, auberge (small country inn) with evening Moroccan dinner on the terrace over the Dades valley.
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Todra Gorge: a massive fault dividing the High Atlas mountains, rising to 300 m in a narrow valley thick with palmeries and Berber villages. After lunch you will transport further into the desert to the tiny village of Mersouga, where you will camel trek at sunset into the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes to a desert bivouac (camp).
Sunrise return by camel to Merzouga and breakfast. Transport (long day) back over the high Atlas Mountains. Arrival in Marrakech at 8 pm.
